In “SITTING IN BARS WITH CAKE,” Jane (Yara Shahidi) and Corinne (Odessa A’zion) have shared a close friendship since childhood and now share a home in Los Angeles. Corinne, an outgoing soul with aspirations of becoming a talent agent like her boss Benita (Bette Midler), works alongside the reserved Jane, who is employed in the agency’s mailroom. Although Jane’s parents (Adina Porter and Navid Negahban) expect her to pursue a legal career, her true passion lies in baking.
To help Jane break out of her shell and discover her own path, Corinne devises a plan for Jane to take cakes to various bars across LA, hoping she might also find love along the way. However, their plan is interrupted when Corinne receives a devastating diagnosis of a brain tumor. Despite the reservations of Corinne’s parents (Ron Livingston and Martha Kelley), Jane offers to care for her as her condition progressively worsens.
