Airaa (2019): Plot
The film begins with journalist Yamuna escaping from her work stress to her grandmother Parvathy’s rural home. She encounters ghosts, especially Bhavani, who haunts her. After a series of incidents, Yamuna tries to understand Bhavani’s story. Bhavani reveals her tragic life, including rejection, abuse, and death. Yamuna feels guilty for not helping Bhavani, leading to her death. Bhavani wants to live with Amudhan, who loves her, and Yamuna agrees to let her possess her body. However, Amudhan refuses, leading to a tragic ending where he joins them in the afterlife. Yamuna visits their graves, and a red butterfly, a recurring symbol, flies by.
