Leader (2010): Plot
The film begins with the assassination of the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Sanjeevayya. His dying wish is for his son, Arjun Prasad, to become the next Chief Minister. However, Arjun’s cousin Dhanunjay has his own political ambitions. Arjun discovers his father’s corruption after dealing with a land dispute involving Ali, who exposed the corruption. Arjun’s mother, Rajeswari Devi, confirms his father’s desire for a corruption-free government. Arjun’s uncle Mahadevayya, known as Peddaina, tolerates corruption to keep the family in power. Arjun decides to fulfill his father’s dream, gathering support from his party’s MLAs and the news reporter Ratna Prabha. He bribes his way to win their support and becomes Chief Minister. Dhanunjay attempts to assassinate Arjun but is asked to resign. Arjun faces opposition from his party in his quest to eliminate corruption and tries to win the support of Munnuswami’s daughter, Archana. He successfully woos her, but when she realizes she’s being used, she leaves. To gain Munnuswami’s support, Arjun lets an accused MLA’s son go free, despite the serious charges. After his mother’s death, Arjun decides to continue his anti-corruption campaign and resigns. He establishes a new party and wins the election, regaining Archana’s support.
